I suppose it is true of all great religious buildings, but on a visit to Borobudur I was particularly struck by what I think is a universal paradox: that you need huge material wealth, acquired through intense engagement with the affairs of the world, to build monuments which inspires us to abandon wealth and to leave the world behind. --A History of the World in 100 Objects

碰巧昨晚從電視看到不丹僧侶生活。他們用有點即興的舞蹈,用顏色飽點創作去接近簡單生活,那可能比參天大佛來得直接。
有沒有文明不以高大廣闊為尚的呢?有沒有文明崇拜一指可掐的小昆蟲的呢?
